Appearance | |
Strain development | Developed by Kazuhiro Ikenaka, Osaka University in 1989. |
Strain description | These ransgenic mice overexpress the Plp gene by introducing extra wild-type mouse proteolipid protein, PLP genes. Tg homozygous mice with 4 more Plp genes show dysmyelination in the CNS and die within about 1 month after birth. Whereas Tg hemizygous with 2 more Plp genes show normal myelination at an early age (3 weeks after birth), but later developed demyelination. |
