Strain descriptionThe transcription factor Foxh1 (horkhead box H1) gene mediates signaling by transforming growth factor-β, Activin, and Nodal. Foxh1 protein interacts with phospho-Smad2 to regulate specific downstream targets of these signals. Mutation in Foxh1 results in impaired orientation of anterior-posterior axis and various defects of anterior streak and node. The flox allele of this strain was generated by Flp-mediated deletion of the neo cassette located between frt sites from the original targeting vector which was designed to insert a combined loxP site and loxP-frt-neo-frt cassette. Conditional Foxh1 deficient mice can be generated by crossing with tissue-specific Cre mice. This strain is useful for the study of Foxh1 gene in vivo.
Colony maintenanceSibling Mating (Homozygote x Homozygote)Homozygote mutant mice are normal and fertile.
