Strain development | The Aldoc-Venus mouse strain was proposed by Izumi Sugihara and produced by Kenji Sakimura’s Laboratory in Niigata University in 2009-2010. The generation of the Aldoc-Venus mice was supported by a Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research on Innovative Areas (Comprehensive Brain Science Network) from the Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture of Japan. The stain can be maintained by mating between homozygotes. No apparent phenotypic features except for the venus expression in the brain. |
Strain description | A gene of mutated green fluorescent protein (Venus) is inserted to the exon 2 of the Aldoc gene in Aldoc-Venus mice. In this mouse strain, the knocked in Venus gene is expressed under the same transcriptional control as the Aldoc gene. Consequently, zebrin (aldolase C, Aldoc)- positive Purkinje cells, which are arranged in the longitudinal striped pattenrn in the cerebellum, are visualized by Venus expression in Aldoc-Venus mice. Additionally astrocytes in the cebtral nervous system are mildly visualuzed by week Venus expression. Many retinal neurons are also visualuzed by Venus expression. |
